Contrast
Wednesday, August 29,2007
As I went through my shots from this morning, these lilies nearly jumped off the screen at me.
I took these in a favorite garden spot by my house, and, though I was aware of the bright sun just coming over the mountain, I didn't look at the contrast. I didn't know the edges were so sharp. I didn't see the shadows so dark.
The contrast that passed through my head at the time was, that on such a perfect summer day, the flowers are growing quickly "imperfect"--fading, browning, torn. Some would say the flowers are old and past their prime. In contrast, others might say they have lived a full life and have character.
