Some shots from the first Annual American Legion Poker Tournament in Cannon Beach. There was little of the glitz and glamour (except for the big, honkin' lucky charm at one seat) found at television's poker tournies, but 2006's Top 20 players were invited to this Sunday evening event. Friday night poker at the Legion has become the hottest ticket in town, limited to 40 players and selling out well before game time. Proceeds go to American Legion community programs (like Toys for Tots.)
Tonight, while I snapped some commemorative group photos, cards were flying, chips were stacking; Brad drove in from Portland to play. Everyone looked very intent, but, as the couple who started the whole Friday Legion phenomenon said, "The most important thing is the community and that everyone has a good time."
