Quiet time

Saturday, Dec 30, 06

Who knew, at this time last year, what was ahead?  Truly, we never know.  As the saying goes, we can only try to prepare for the worst, expect the best and take what comes.  This last week was a long week, mourning Cassy and keeping myself out of the empty house and as busy as possible. This year was a long year of postponed projects, worries about friends and life gone awry.  I've certainly had better years and better weeks.

But I couldn't ask for better friends.  Thank you to Marga (and Tom) who not only came with me to the veterinarian's office, but gave me the keys to their condo on the river and a stack of movies, so I wouldn't spend Christmas weekend alone in my apartment.  Thank you to Gwen and Paul, Jodi, Sarah, Rich, Guy, Barb, Joyce, Hank, Karen, Carol, Kat, Steve, Carolyn, Beverlee and others who have called or emailed with kind words about Cassy and encouragement to me. Time to gather the pieces from the last 12 months and face the next head on.

After shooting for cbnet this morning, I happened upon this scene.  The surf was high and loud, moving logs and debris around the beach below.  Reciting my "To Do" list in my head, I longed to be this woman (whose life may very well have more challenges than mine,) who had found a place and time to be quiet amidst the ocean's chaos--to observe it rather than be swept along in it.  This was the theme of my holiday cards, also--take the time to reflect, to "Breathe."  Physician (Glynis,) heal thyself.
