Storm Brewing

Thursday, Dec 07, 06

I saw the interesting clouds from Astoria, and by the time I reached Seaside I'd decided to stop at the Cove for some sweeping seascapes before the clouds completely moved off to the east. What I hadn't expected, however, was the power in the ocean that, apparently, a disturbance out to sea was creating (though these photos hardly do it justice): literally walls of water rolling up the shores, and this two hours after hide tide. I thought tidal wave; I thought tsunami. Both would be infinitely bigger than what I saw today--even storm waves would be--but this scene was enough to humble this human being and make me feel very small indeed. (to compare with a much calmer Cove, view August 23rd's entry)
