Surfsand Resort Annual Dog Show at the Beach benefitting the Clatsop County Animal Shelter.  This is the cause most dear to my heart, and, deciding to feature the CCAS dogs in this entry, I haven't gotten away without some tears.

The event couldn't miss--clear skies, low 60's temps, all the dogs well-behaved, a hot dog lunch, a dog-friendly community and lots of creative categories giving everyone a chance for a ribbon ("Prettiest," "Fluffiest," "So Ugly It's Cute," "Skinniest," etc.)

Kudos and thank you to Surfsand Resort. (more photos of the event on www.cannon-beach.net)

These are CCAS volunteers who chaperoned the dogs for the day.  There are as many stories as there are dogs:  one's owner is serving a jail sentence, another dog was adopted from the Shelter a year ago by someone who was just called back to the war.

This one, a beautiful sweetheart, has been living on a short rope for two years (though that's not much of a life.)

But they love Steve Hildreth, Animal Control Supervisor, and he and many of the volunteers foster animals in their homes to avoid putting them down.  This week he's played host to a mother dog who had puppies Monday and a Lab mix whose leg had to be amputated yesterday (the vet said it had been broken for at least a month.)

High school seniors Kyla and Amy are working with the Shelter for their Pacifica Project.

It looks like a good day for Maggie, who not only took first place in "So Ugly It's Cute, " but won this family's hearts as well (they were seriously considering adopting this little jewel.)
