Medicinal Color

There are psychological effects of color: red excites, greens soothe, blues cool, etc. Today I accompanied a friend to her doctor's appointment 80 miles away. The large "clinic" facility is surrounded by trees and birdhouses on manicured green grass without an inkling of the huge shopping mega-plazas two blocks away.
The waiting areas I've seen at this place are somewhat similar with brightly colored children's toys and tables and crayons next to the larger blue chairs and purple couches and sports and business and parenting magazines. All have large windows looking out at peaceful courtyards and trees, and many have stained glass panels. I watched the sun today pushing patterns and colors across the furniture and carpet like a kaliedescope. I wasn't even a patient, and it made me feel better.
